Goals


To contribute to the innovative territorial development of the participating Nordic and North-West Russian regions through enhancement of economic cooperation and trade between the Nordic Countries and the North-West Russia.

Methods and Projects Scope


Project unites partners from Leningrad, Pskov, Arkhangelsk regions, Karelia Republic, and Norway, Finland, Sweden, Denmark. Among the main purposes of the project are:

  • Finding out the most innovative practices of the Nordic countries and North-West regions, related to the forms of the partnership between rural and regional municipal authorities; 

  • Participating of the society in preservation of the nature diversity;

  • Preservation and development of the local traditions and crafts as an instrument of the economic growth.

Leontief Centre was assigned to coordinate the project.

Project Results

During the project realisation took place several actions for discussion of the particular challenges. At the conference which was held in Pskov ( May 27-30, 2014) it was presented the best practices of the Nordic countries and the best initiations of the Russian regions in sphere of the rural innovations and also five master-classes of the art workshop for the rural territories development. During the seminar in St. Petersburg (August 28-29, 2014) it were discussed the partnership principles between the national and municipal authorities, non-profit organizations for making the prosperous conditions for the small and medium business development in the rural area. In context of XIII All-Russia Forum “Strategic Planning in Regions and Cities of Russia: Revisioning Strategies, Renewing Meanings” (27-28th of October, 2014, St. Petersburg) it was held a session “Urban-Rural Partnership for Sustainable Development: Experiences of the Baltic Sea Region”. There were discussed European strategies of the rural territories modernisation, which could be the basis of forming of the new system of the urban-rural territorial spatial planning in Russia, based on the sustainable development and innovations. Nordregio Forum was devoted to bio economic potential for the growth and development of the uptown and under-populated regions.
