 On April 1, within the framework of the XV St. Petersburg Partnership for Small and Medium Business, the session “Shore and Sea. Tools for Ecosystem Management of the Marine Economy”, co-organized by the Leontief Center. Among the main co-organizers is the Yermak North-West Aqua-Territorial Planning Institute.

 

During the session, the roll call of the seas of the Baltic, Arctic, Asia-Pacific, Black Sea regions took place, the participants discussed successful inter-regional practices and projects for the use of resources in marine areas and coastal areas, actions to reduce the carbon footprint.

 

The key topics of the session were: improving the regulatory framework for sustainable development, job creation, and the health of marine ecosystems; institutional issues of the development of the system of marine spatial planning as one of the main tools for rational and sustainable maritime use; climate challenges; success technologies, as well as the best practice of cross-border cooperation in the Baltic Sea region, healthy and sustainable development of the Black Sea area.

 

The participants of the session agreed that the interregional dialogue on the sustainable development of coastal territories should be based on an integrated ecosystem approach, taking into account the needs and interests of Russia and international experience. Continuation of the dialogue “Coast and Sea. Tools for ecosystem management of the marine economy” will be held at the Forum of Strategists 2022 (October 31 – November 1, 2022).
