60th Meeting of the VASAB (Vision and Strategies around the Baltic Sea) Committee on Spatial Planning and Development of the Baltic Sea Region

On October 24, 2012 in Saint Petersburg, 60th Meeting of the VASAB (Vision and Strategies around the Baltic Sea) Committee on Spatial Planning and Development of the Baltic Sea Region took place under the chairmanship of Elena Chuguevskaya, Director of Strategic Planning of Regional Development Department of Russia. On behalf of the Leontief Centre, the meeting was attended by Irina Karelina Director General of the ICSER Leontief Centre and Elena Belova, Secretary General and Head of the Development Department of the Leontief Centre.

The meeting gathered 26 officials from different government institutions, including - Ministry of Regional Development of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Finland, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development of the Republic of Latvia, the Ministry of Regional Development of the Republic of Poland, as well as representatives of the scientific and expert organizations from Russia, Germany, Estonia, Lithuania, Sweden.

Current issues and the course of VASAB projects implementation were also taken into consideration. Special attention was paid to the ESPON project Territorial Monitoring in the European macro-region - the experience of the Baltic Sea (Temo-BSR), presented by Nordregio experts. The joint VASAB-HELKOM activity plans in the field of maritime planning and implementation of the PartiSEApate project "Multi-level governance in the field of maritime spatial planning in the Baltic Sea Region", presented by the VASAB Secretariat, were discussed as well.

One of the key themes of the agenda was preparation of the VASAB Conference of Ministers for Spatial Development of the Baltic Sea, which will take place in 2014.
