2011-12-14 :: Cooperation between the EU and Russia in the Baltic sea region

In 2012 the Russian Federation becomes the Chairman of the Council of the Baltic sea States, the leading pan-Baltic organization in the region. Our country accepts not only the obligations under the long-term goals of the Council in the field of Economics, environment, energy, culture, but also receives the opportunity to present its vision of the perspectives of cooperation in the Baltic sea region.

One of the tasks of this presidency may be to find ways of joint cooperation between Russia and the EU over the resolution of common problems identified in the strategic documents.

The expert meeting was devoted to the discussion of the issue, which was held in St. Petersburg on 14 December 2011. It was attended by General Director of the Secretariat of the Council of the Baltic sea States J. Lundin, Deputy chief of the Department of the Plenipotentiary representative of RF President in Northwest Federal district 

V.  Lovtsov Vice-President of the Association "North-West" S. Khodko, Director of the branch of the Fund named after F. Ebert Foundation in Russia R. Krumm, Chairman of HELCOM LAND L. Korovin, Director of the branch of national research UNIVERSITY Higher School of Economics in Saint-Petersburg A. Hodachek, Director General of the International centre for socio-economic research "Leontief Centre" Irina Karelina, representatives of regional administrations.

The participants came to the conclusion that to achieve the goals two conditions are essential: one is the trust between potential partners, on the other hand it is the understanding of common goals and benefits.
