The book by S.A. Vasiliev "Essays on the History of the Great Reforms" has been published. The author of the essays, working in the Government of Russia and the Federation Council, combined the development of reform strategies and economic programs, plans and forecasts with serious scientific work. Being not a historian, but an economist who personally participated in the preparation and implementation of a number of fundamental transformations, the author looks at the objective and subjective prerequisites for reforms, the process of implementing reforms and their effectiveness from the standpoint of his experience, which makes the book very interesting and original.
An analysis of reforms in Russia in the 19th – early 20th centuries allows us to identify problems and tasks, the solution of which determines the success of any modernization activity in any country and in any era, including modern Russia, which makes the book relevant and useful for anyone thinking about issues of institutional support for modern economic growth and development.
The book can be recommended to economists, historians, political scientists, researchers, teachers, graduate students and students, as well as a wide range of readers interested in the economic and institutional history of Russia and the problems of its reform at the present stage.
