2024-06-04 :: Inaccessible embankments of St. Petersburg

On May 29, director-coordinator of research programs L.E. Limonov took part in the online discussion “Inaccessible embankments of St. Petersburg”, organized by the conference department of RBC St. Petersburg and the Retrogradu.Net project.


The moderator of the discussion is Roman Gerasimov, journalist, TV presenter, member of the Union of Architects. Leading architects, leading heads of development companies in St. Petersburg, designers, and representatives of the academic community took part in the discussion.


During the discussion the following questions were discussed:


  • Which of the announced city and business projects for the reconstruction of embankments have not yet taken place and why?
  • Successful projects: Karpovka, Sevkabel, Lakhta Center embankment, embankments of the Okhta and Okkervil rivers from Utkin Bridge to Shaumyan Bridge - why did it work?
  • Prospects: embankments on the alluvium of Vasilyevsky Island, near the Ladozhsky station, embankment of the Bolshaya Nevka.
  • Announced embankment improvement projects - how do they affect the urban landscape?
  • The embankments in St. Petersburg are given over to cars. Are there urban design and/or technology solutions that are better communicated to citizens?
