2023-12-14 :: LC-AV in the Altai Republic

In the period from December 5 to 11, a working visit of a team of experts from the Leontief Center - AV Group Consortium to the Altai Republic took place as part of a project to update strategic planning documents for the region. More than 15 working meetings were held, including meetings with the authorities of the republic and municipal administrations, a meeting with youth activists of the region at the Gorno-Altai State University, a meeting with the leadership of the university, as well as with business associations and public organizations. 

The main goal of all meetings is to involve all interested parties - government, business, public organizations, youth and residents of the region - in updating the Strategy for Socio-Economic Development of the Altai Republic until 2050.

The LC-AV team presented the main approaches, stages and timing of work on the Strategy; in the format of a dialogue, the limiting factors of Altai’s development, as well as strengths and growth points, were discussed. Thus, during a meeting in the regional capital, participants focused on the importance of developing the Gorno-Altai urban agglomeration. During a meeting with youth activists at GASU, students shared their vision of shaping the image of the future of the Altai Republic. Issues regarding the development of the university, its role in the socio-economic development of the republic and providing the region with personnel were discussed with the leadership of the university. Residents of the Chemal, Turochak and Choy districts noted the importance and need to preserve nature, culture and traditions.

The suggestions and wishes expressed will be considered by the LC-AV team in the course of further work. A strategic session to discuss the results of the first stage of work is scheduled for early February 2024.
