2021-12-20 :: Series of seminars "Economy and Culture"

In October-December 2021, a series of 5 seminars on the topic "Economy and Culture" was held in St. Petersburg:

 

On October 14, A.V. Vernikov (Institute of Economics, RAS) and A. A. Kurysheva (Southern Federal University).

The seminar was devoted to the analysis of the relationship between the expansion of consumer lending and the outflow of financial resources from the household sector in favor of banks (in the context of institutional theory).

November 11 with the report "The Modernization Controversy: A Common Road or Special Paths?" A. P. Zaostrovtsev (ICSEI Leontief Center, European University, NRU HSE in St. Petersburg) spoke.

Within the framework of the seminar, a discussion of the book by A.P. Zaostrovtseva "The Modernization Controversy: A Common Road or Special Paths?" (2020), which reveals different views on modernization, compares the interpretation of this concept in modern China with the latest discussions of Western researchers on this issue.

On December 8, a seminar "Phenomenology of the (not) visible in the public sphere" was held (in conjunction with the seminars of St. I. Kalinin (St. Petersburg State University) and D. Raskov (ICSEI Leontief Center, St. Petersburg State University).

December 9 T. Eggertsson (Icelandic University, Hertie School of Management in Berlin) presented the book "Imperfect Institutions: Opportunities and Limitations of Reforms", containing an analysis of the reasons why institutions that create relative economic backwardness arise and continue to exist, as well as opportunities and boundaries institutional reforms.

On December 16, P. Shmuglyakov (Free University of Berlin) delivered a report "The economic problem and the negative image of love: Adorno, Seidl and Lanthimos".
