2020-02-17 :: The XIXth Annual International Conference of the Cycle “Leontief Readings” – “Economics and Sociology” Held in St. Petersburg
On February 14-15, the XIXth Annual International Conference of the Cycle “Leontief Readings” – “Economics and Sociology” was held in St. Petersburg. Organizer – ANO ICSER Leontief Centre. CJSC ICSER Leontief Centre provided expert support. The conference was attended by leading Russian and foreign scholars representing leading research organizations (Institute of Economics RAS, National Research University Higher School of Economics, European University at St. Petersburg, Sociological Institute RAS, CASE - Center for Social and Economic Research (Warsaw, Poland), ICSER Leontief Centre, etc.).
The conference discussed economic and social aspects of the theory and practice of modernization. The section “Modernization, Economics and Historical Sociology” was organized by the Center for Modernization Studies at European University at St. Petersburg. Boris Kolonitskii, a leading historian of the Russian Revolution, European University at St. Petersburg, gave a special lecture dedicated to 150th anniversary of Vladimir Lenin’s birth – “Will Lenin be alive? A politician in the history of the Russian revolution and Russian historical memory”.

The conference ended with the Ceremony of Awarding with the International Leontief Medal “For Contribution to Economic Reforms”. The Leontief Medal 2019 is awarded to Sergei Guriev, Doctor of Science in Economics, Professor of Economics at the Paris Institute of Political Studies (Sciences Po), Rector of the New Economic School (2004-2013). He is awarded for outstanding results in development and teaching of economic science, active assistance in the formation of civil society and economic reforms in Russia. At the Awarding Ceremony, the Leontief Medal Laureate gave a video lecture entitled “Political Economy of Populism”.
