2019-02-25 :: Irina Karelina Took Part in the Public Council Meeting Attached to St. Petersburg Committee for External Relations

On February 25, Director-General of ICSER Leontief Centre Irina Karelina took part in a meeting of the Public Council attached to St. Petersburg Committee for External Relations held at Smolny.

On February 25, this year’s first meeting of the Public Council attached to St. Petersburg Committee for External Relations was held at Smolny. The meeting discussions included the outcome of the Committee’s work in 2018 and a work plan for the current period. Council members – experts in international affairs and development of interregional ties, representatives of public organizations and professional bodies made proposals to strengthen interaction and coordinate joint activities.

  • Margarita Mudrak, Chairman, St. Petersburg Association for International Cooperation;
  • Natalya Muizinik, Head of International Cooperation Department at the North-West Institute of Management, RANEPA;
  • Boris Ivchenko, Deputy of St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly, Head of Special Laboratory “Strategy for Development and Security of the Russian Arctic” at the North-West Management Institute, RANEPA;
  • Maxim Balanev, Managing Director, Small Business Support Fund “Euro Info Correspondent Centre”;
  • Georgy Abelev, Vice-President, St. Petersburg Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.


The meeting was chaired by the Rector of St. Petersburg State University of Economics, Council Chairman Igor Maksimtsev.

Speaking from the Section for Development of Foreign Economic Cooperation, Maxim Balanev asked the Committee to draw attention to clean technologies and start-ups support. According to him, St. Petersburg has accumulated significant competence in these areas, and now with the Committee’s support it is necessary to expand the discussions involving foreign experts.

Deputy of St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly, Member of the Section for Liaison with International Organizations Boris Ivchenko considered that the work of the Public Council is to create a portfolio of creative cases studies, which could be implemented.

Vice-President of St. Petersburg Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Georgy Abelev, who is in the Section of the Council for Development of Cooperation with the Federal Subjects of Russia, spoke about successful examples of promoting representatives of St. Petersburg business community by the Committee on foreign markets. In particular, according to the results of a number of St. Petersburg’s cultural and business missions to the regions of Russia and the CIS countries, a St. Petersburg company engaged in the installation of decorative lighting and street lighting has found counterparties and secured new orders. Georgy Abelev estimates that assistance in establishing contacts with partners abroad and in other regions of Russia is an important and powerful tool to develop St. Petersburg business.
