2017-06-14 :: Irina Karelina and Elena Belova Took Part in the 8th Annual Forum of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (Berlin, Germany)

On June 12-14, the 8th Annual Forum of the EUSBSR was held in Berlin, attended by Director-General of ICSER Leontief Centre Irina Karelina and Secretary General, Head of Development Department Elena Belova. 

Forum organizers: Federal Foreign Office together with the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions of Europe - Baltic Sea Commission and in close cooperation with the European Commission.

The theme of the 8th Annual Forum is connectivity. This motto highlights the necessity to intensify contacts throughout the Baltic Sea Region, including its neighboring regions, and to develop a better awareness of each other’s perspectives. Cooperation in form of mutually beneficial projects may have beneficial spill-over effects and contribute to confidence-building in politically difficult times.

On June 13, Irina Karelina took part in the seminar Mutual Interest – Mutual Benefit: Cooperating with North-West Russian Regions, organized by Interreg Baltic Sea Region Joint Secretariat and EUSBSR Horizontal Action Neighbours. Irina Karelina showcased cooperation examples with North-West Russian regions within Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme 2014-2020.

Elena Belova took part in the seminar The Connected Society – a Transformation to the Baltic Smart Cities, organized by VASAB Committee on Spatial Planning and Development of the Baltic Sea Region and (EUSBSR Horizontal Action Spatial Planning.

About 800 participants from governments, international organisations, NGOs, universities, local and regional administrations and business discussed a broad range of issues, relevant for the Baltic Sea Region.
