2017-03-22 :: Irina Karelina and Elena Belova Took Part in the XVIII International Environmental Forum "Baltic Sea Day" in St. Petersburg

On March 22, Director-General of ICSER Leontief Centre Irina Karelina and Secretary General, Head of Development Department Elena Belova took part in the XVIII International Environmental Forum "Baltic Sea Day" in St. Petersburg. Irina Karelina made a report on the theme "Cooperation in the Baltic Sea region – partnership in INTERREG" at the round table "Baltic Sea – sustainable development territory".

XVIII International Environmental Forum "Baltic Sea Day" is traditionally held in St. Petersburg. The event is held under the auspices of the Helsinki Commission (HELCOM - the managing authority of the Convention), the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation, is included in the work plan of the Sea Collegium under the Government of the Russian Federation and the Action plan of St. Petersburg within the Year of Ecology in Russia. Forum "Baltic Sea Day" Programme reflects the current trends in the environmental safety and well-being of the Baltic Sea, provides an opportunity to discuss strategic challenges in a wide range of experts and public community.

2017 – Declared the Year of Ecology in Russia (Order of the President of the Russian Federation No. 7 from January 5, 2016).

The Forum Programme 2017 reflects the current environmental trends of the Baltic Sea region, it is developed jointly with the HELCOM Secretariat and includes plenary and section sessions on the following topics: cooperation in the Baltic Sea region; issues of the sea waste; toxic "heritage"; agriculture and many others.

The aims of the roundtable: to discuss the relationship (correlation) of ecological objectives with global, regional and local environmental strategies; to develop proposals for harmonization of objectives; to discuss (coordinate) the further activities in the implementation of the Action plan for the Baltic Sea.
