2017-02-18 :: The XVI Annual International Conference "Leontief Readings"

On February 17-18 the XVI Annual International Conference "Leontief Readings" – "Russia 1917 – 2017: European Modernization or Sonderweg?" was held.

Organizer - ICSER Leontief Centre. Media Partners – Journals: Economic Policy, Finance and Business, Social Sciences and Modernity.


The key discussion of the conference was devoted to the institutional history of Russia. Whether is Russia moving towards European modernization or evolves mainly on the basis of its own institutions that differ fundamentally from institutions of the Western civilization? Can Russia eventually become one of the countries of the West or the transformation is extremely unlikely, if not impossible because of the rooted basic institutions? At the conference it were reviewed important events and periods in the history of the country, held the round table where the scientists defend their own points of view while answering the questions of speakers and participants. The conference was attended by well-known Russian and foreign economists of institutional school, historians, lawyers, political scientists and philosophers.


On February 18 the Award Ceremony of International Leontief Medal "For Contribution to Economic Reforms" was held.
Laureates 2016:

  • Ivan Mikloš, Former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the Slovak Republic;
  • Leonid Grigoriev, Chief Adviser to Head of the Analytical Centre under the Government of the Russian Federation.
